At Dundonald we believe that homework provides pupils with the opportunity to practise at home the skills learned in class and helps them towards developing these. It encourages children to become confident and independent learners which will help them during their time at school and extend into their adult life. It is also an important of an effective home-school partnership, providing opportunities for parents/carers to be aware of and take interest in their child's learning.

We know that homework has most positive impact on children's learning when the tasks set are:
  • purposeful,
  • of an appropriate length of time,
  • differentiated to meet the needs of individuals,
  • interesting and inviting,
  • involve parents and allow for children to communicate with teachers when they struggle or do not understand a task.
